What we do

There are opportunities in every garden space to optimise and tweak for nature. Some are small, easy interventions. Others are more involved, like optimising the flow of a whole garden or installing a wildlife-friendly swimming pond.

Natural swimming & water features

The single most impactful thing we can introduce into a garden from nature's perspective is water. As humans, we have a unique ability to introduce water where previously there was none. Water is where our whole journey at Wild Again started — our first ever project together was a garden pond and cascade.

Wildlife ponds, streams and waterfalls

We've yet to find a garden we couldn't fit some kind of wildlife pond into. A well designed pond brings in so much wildlife, it's honestly impossible to imagine until you see it happen in front of you.

We design ponds and cascades to look like they've always been in the landscape, with native planting schemes to go with them. Every detail earns its place: dragonflies need somewhere slightly above the water to perch as part of their mating rituals, and birds like a high perch so they can scope out the area before landing for a bath or a drink.

Natural plunge pools

Imagine all of the benefits of a wildlife pond, except it's also built for you. Clear, cool water that you can step down into to find escape from the next heatwave.

Natural swimming pools, micro-pools included, have a swimming zone which is kept clear and a filtration zone, where the water gently circulates through cleverly planted beds of plants and layers of substrate and stones. That gives you clear water without any of the chemicals or expensive maintenance of a traditional pool.

Natural swimming ponds & pools

Swimming in cool, clear, naturally filtered water while dragonflies flit across the surface in front of you is one of life's greatest joys. Without any of the chemicals or expensive upkeep of a traditional pool, and with a huge ecological benefit rather than cost, a natural swimming pond is a true sanctuary.

Sadly none of our waterways in the UK are classed as being in good health, due to extensive agricultural run-off and sewage discharge. Having a wild swimming pool of your own is the only way to enjoy a truly clean, natural swim in the UK.

Ecological structures & boundaries

Human presence in the landscape can create so many opportunities for wildlife. One of the most beautiful ways is in the structures we create. We use heritage techniques that maximise beauty, longevity, and opportunity for wildlife.

Woven willow fences, borders and structures

Willow structures are stunning, ecological, and very customisable. When cared for, they have a lifespan of 10 to 20 years in the British weather. The human energy that goes into weaving them also makes them incredibly strong, while still allowing some wind to move naturally through the gaps.

Drystone walls, retaining walls and seating

Drystone walling, done well, can stand for thousands of years. Yes, thousands. It's exceptionally beautiful, lending itself to a timelessness that says ‘I belong here’.

Not only that, but mortar-free gaps in the stones provide a complex network of sheltered spaces for immeasurable small creatures, from solitary bees to wrens and robins.
